Parent Contract and Code of Conduct

The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character.”

I therefore agree:
1. I will encourage my child to participate, but won’t force them to play. Kids should want to be in Little League to have fun. The game is for the kids, not for an adult looking to relive an athletic past.
2. I will learn the rules of Little League and the policies of Clairemont Hilltoppers. If you have ANY questions, feel free to ask. We’re one big family here, and we want newcomers to feel welcome.
3. I will inform my child’s coach of any disability or ailment that could impact the safety of either my child or others.
4. I will be a positive role model for my child by showing respect and support for all players, coaches, officials and other spectators.
5. I will insist that my child play by the rules, learn to resolve conflicts amicably and show respect to other players, coaches, officials and spectators.
6. I will teach my child that doing their best is the most important part of playing any game and that, while winning and competition are fun, their self-worth and my love for them is never affected by winning or losing.
7. I will emphasize skill development, practices and teamwork over winning. Especially at the lower levels, the games are just for fun and to help develop players who are ready to move up to the Majors division and beyond
8. I will put the emotional and physical well-being of my child and all players ahead of any personal interests in winning or individual achievements.
9. I understand that neither coaches or umpires belong in the stands. I will cheer positively for all the players and save any discussions with coaches for a time away from players’ eyes and ears.If you disagree with umpire decisions, please keep it to yourself, but do volunteer to umpire some games.
10. I agree that tobacco, alcohol and other drugs have no place in Little League. Their use is strictly prohibited at all Little League games and practices.
